Workshops of craftsmanship
Original Shopping: a good taste tour
If you think about shopping in Verona what immediately comes to your mind it's the shops on Via Mazzini and Corso Portoni Borsari, where the big brands are concentrated, but it is fair to promote local craftsmanship and creativity, the preservation of traditions and ancient shops.
Together we could discover old markets, centuries-old signs and painted advertising, basements rich in history and art.
The municipality of Verona has delivered a plaque of recognition to those owners of shops and craft workshops that, from generation to generation, have passed on the secret of their mastery. So we will discover this wonderful world of heritage craft skills and folk art, deeply rooted in history.
Framer, knife sharpener, leather tanners, ceramic restorers, master glazier, blacksmith, printer. You will get to know the needlewoman, the dressmaker, the seamstress from whom you can choose the fabric and order a tailored shirt or dress.
Two hours will fly cheerfully! With an additional hour, we pay a visit to a Colour laboratory that grinds the stones to make natural colours, for faces and facades. The powder in its purest form is also used for the production of cosmetics, and among their customers there is L'Oreal Paris.
Of course, it's worth taking a good coffee with traditional pastries: risini and zaletti, Juliet's kisses and Romeo's sighs.
I will show you with pleasure restaurants in old churches and family-run trattorias, where you will be warmly welcomed by the owners.
And if you visit Verona on the first Sunday of the month, don't forget the flea market, that takes place on one of the most beautiful squares of the city, near the basilica of San Zeno, from 9.00 to 17.30, where you can buy anything from furniture, carpets, chandeliers, and books up to antique objects and exotic items.
