Limone, Gardone, Salò

The Western Riviera is characterized by vertical rocky mountains that mark a boundary, which is not only administrative, between the Veneto and Lombardy Region, but also geological. Only in the last century, man has managed to overcome the obstacle of the mountains and pierced the rocks creating 50 galleries that offer a thrilling experience on the lake.

Limone

Limone is coincidentally called as the fruits that are grown here since the 17th century: the lemons. Once its lemon grove supplied the European market, now it offers an educational course on citrus cultivation with charming views on the village and the peaks of Monte Baldo. Perched on the banks of the lake in the dizzy cliffs, Lemon has local characteristic houses carved into the stone and wrapped in gorgeous bougainvillea. In this Eden saint Daniel Comboni was born and became a missionary in Africa, his house became a museum.

Gardone

Small tourist resort known for Andreas Heller botanical garden and for the extraordinary residence of the poet Gabriele D'Annunzio, who created in life a house-museum and a mausoleum where he is buried. The Vittoriale preserves thousands of rare books and cult objects of the poet, a warship in the hills, a plane hanging from the ceiling of the theater, a torpedo boat and two antique cars, a rich collection of clothes and shoes worn or drawn by him. His house is a place of pleasure for the intellect and soul, an interesting journey, not only in history but also in the early 20th century fashion.

Salò

Town ​​beloved by the Doges, it has Venetian gates with the Lions of Saint Mark and a rich church full of artwork and beautiful Art Nouveau buildings on the lake.

Salò became famous during World War II when it was briefly a republic with its own mint and stamps, and the most beautiful palaces housed ministries and the news agency of the fascist propaganda. It is the birthplace of the violin maker Gasparo, whose musical instruments were appreciated by virtuosos from around the world.
